Despite the opportunistic nature of the auction, it was scheduled prior to the Fare Thee Well shows' announcement.

No doubt that if you have a bunch of valuable Dead-related ephemera and you would like a cash infusion, this anniversary year is probably a good year to offload. The economy is halfway decent, too, which doesn't hurt.
